About Kokshetau

Since Keith and I now have travel dates we thought we'd update everyone on what region we will be staying in. We fly in to Almaty and will then fly to Kokshetau which is where we will be staying for most of our trip. The baby house is located in Shchuchinsk which we believe is an hour from Kokshetau. Keith and I will travel to the baby house on a daily basis to visit with our soon to be son!!!

INFORMATION ON KOKSHETAU:

Kokshetau is a city of about 150,000 in the north central part of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Kokshetau is the center for the Akmala Oblast and it contains Kazakhstan’s new capital city of Astana. The people of Kokshetau are approximately 40 percent ethnic Kazak, 40 percent Russian and the remaining are a mix of other ethnic groups.

Kokshetau is located in the steppe region of Central Asia. Agriculture is the economic base of the area. The land is primarily devoted to growing grains and other crops. There are also abundant supplies of bituminous and brown coal, iron and copper ore, bauxite and gold. There are several hospitals, colleges and technical institutes in Kokshetau. The Kazak Ministry of Natural Resources has determined that Kokshetau is one of the ecologically cleanest regions in all of Kazakhstan. Kokshetau is especially known for the beautiful natural area known as Borovoye, located within an hour’s drive of the city. Borovoye contains evergreen forests, mountains and many spring-fed lakes.

Plus, these pictures don't show what we need to pack for us. Ok,What Do You Think Now???
